Sunday the 6th of August was the deadline the Military Governement in Niger was given by ECOWAS to return governance to civilians if it wanted to avoid a military intervention. A day later ECOWAS has not yet followed up on its threats. Obvious reason like the complexity of the situation especially in relation to the reality of neighbouring Military led governments around Niger and popular sentiment of the need of a systems change in Africa that will curb against the cheap exploitation of resources in Africa. By Monday morning the 7th of August 2023, the government in Niger had declared a no fly zone. The situation remains volatile with many actors interested and watching closely.
