War has ragged for months in Gaza causing suffering, casualties, death and humanitarian crisis. The international community has condemned both parties and called for a ceasefire.
After dire warnings from UN officials about a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the 193-member UN General Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire with three-quarters of member states voting in favor.
Though the resolution is non-binding it is seen as a welcome step in attempts to solve the ongoing crisis. Israel continues to defend its hardline stance arguing that only Hamas will benefit from such a ceasefire. While international advocates argue that the price and cost of dealing Hamas cannot be the lives of innocent people and lives.
