Climate change, drought and acute water shortages are some of Bulawayo’s biggest problems. The season 2023/2024 is going to have even more challenges in this context due to the return of the EL NINO climate phenomena which will impact Southern Africa at a whole new level. Rains have been very little if not none this season. Bulawayo which now has a population slightly more than a million with other development actors arguing that this number is still conservative as the statistical information available is nor not reflective of the population growth experienced over the years. The city will be one of the most affected cities in Southern Africa due to its existing water woes.  Residents are already going for almost a month without water. The current Mayor of Bulawayo David Coltart has aready expressed serious concerns warning echoing that the government must declare  the current situation a National Disaster.
