Bulawayo, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe1, is set to welcome a new addition to its landscape – Madlunga Township2. Located 12.5km from the CBD this new low to medium-cost suburb is a unique development that aims to redefine urban living in the city2.
Mr. Dumisani Dube from Dube Legal Practice a Bulawayo based law firm with a portfolio in property management shared his vision for the new suburb, stating, “The plan for Madlunga Township is for it to be sustainable in line with 21st-century expectations. It will be a gated community with standardized housing units.” This vision aligns with the current global trend towards sustainable urban development, and it’s exciting to see it being implemented in Bulawayo.
Madlunga Township is not just about providing affordable housing; it’s about creating a community. The suburb will have 525 stands available, mostly residential with a few commercial and institutional stands2. These stands are designed to cater to a variety of needs, making Madlunga Township a diverse and vibrant community2.
Mr. F. Sibanda, one of the project managers, confirmed that the initial stages of the project have been completed. He said, “Pegging has finished, and stands are ready for ownership.” This marks a significant milestone in the project and brings Madlunga Township one step closer to becoming a reality.
Madlunga Township is more than just a housing project; it’s a testament to Bulawayo’s growth and development. It represents a step towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for the city. With its unique model and commitment to quality, Madlunga Township is set to become a benchmark for future urban developments in Zimbabwe.
