Donald Trump is returning as POTUS for his second term after the Republicans swept the Presidential polls, crashing hopes of Democrat nominee Kamala Harris to become the country’s first female head of state.
Trump, who survived two assassination attempts during the campaign trail, called the US Presidential election result “unprecedented and powerful” with a promise to usher in the “golden age of America” and enforce stricter border control. Trump, who is now the American Presidential elect, led Harris from the start of the election making his victory pretty obvious before even final votes were counted.
Declaring victory for himself at a massive gathering, Trump said, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate.”
He becomes the first former president to return to the White House in more than 130 years and, at 78, the oldest man elected to America’s highest office.
Both Biden and Harris called to congratulate him on his victory promising a smooth transition of power.
The Republican candidate is hopeful to take control of the House of Representatives as well.
