Banyana Banyana the African 2022 Champions went 2 goals to 1 against 3rd ranked Sweden, in a match that looked like the African Champions will produce a shocker. Banyana Banyana were disciplined but not entirely disciplined in their approach to the game. Often considering corner kicks and making unnecessary mistakes in the box ended up giving Sweden the lead in the 89th minute. South Africa took the lead in the 48th minute through Hilda Magaia who finished a well worked goal from Thembi Katlana. Katlana worked her way in the flank before attempting a shot which was saved by the keeper and fell into the legs of Hildah who only a few yards away from an empty net could not miss.
The lead was given away in the 65th minute when Lebogang Ramapele could not deal with a tame ball in the box and gifted Fridolina Rolfo who did barely enough to get the ball into the net.
At 1 all South Africa looked set to hold in to a draw until the 89th minute when Amanda Ilestedti headed home a well crossed corner kick and that made all the difference.
Many Hope's where on Banyana Banyana as Zambia was thumped 5 goals to nil the previous day and Nigeria drew nil all with Canada.
The journey continues for African teams as Morrocco are still to play Germany and Africa hoping for a win.
